"May the odds be ever in your favor." - Effie Trinket After he face dives on the floor and passes out, Effie's wig is crooked from the hug he gave her before Effie is disgusted by Haymitch's drunken behaviour. During the reaping, Haymitch comes in drunk and this angers Effie due to his manners and presentation. Unfortunately for Effie, she ends up being the only one clapping. She pulls herself back together and tries to make the situation better by asking the crowd to give a round of applause but they are still registering the proceedings and do not agree with the reaping. Effie along with all of District 12 are in shock when Katniss Everdeen goes on stage and volunteers for Prim. Effie reads the slip of paper and surprises the crowd with the name she has drawn: Primrose Everdeen. She starts with the ladies first and draws the name for the female tribute for District 12. The only reason she travels to District 12 or the other districts is because of the Games or the Victory Tour. When Katniss volunteered to take her twelve year old sister's place when her name was pulled during the 74th Hunger Games reaping, the audience stayed silent and Effie was left on stage clapping by herself in an effort to lighten the atmosphere.ĭuring the events of the Rebellion, Effie was said to be taken by the Capitol, and Katniss later finds out that Effie had joined the rebels' side in the rebellion.Įffie lives in the Capitol, and remains there for most of the year.
Her responsibilities included drawing Hunger Games tributes' names at reapings and subsequently escorting the tributes to the Capitol.Įffie tries to encourage tributes to be happy about their upcoming participation in the Games, though her efforts are mostly in vain.
Effie worked as an escort for District 12 tributes, particularly to Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark in The Hunger Games trilogy.
